The Major League Baseball offseason has seen multiple big-name players switch teams via free agency or trade.

Some of the players to have a new home in 2025 include Juan Soto, Blake Snell, Max Fried, Corbin Burnes and Willy Adames.

One noticeable position that hasn’t been involved in the recent signings is relief pitcher, specifically back-end relief pitcher.

The best relief pitcher on the market this offseason is arguably Tanner Scott of the San Diego Padres, who is drawing interest from multiple teams.

MLB insider Ken Rosenthal recently predicted how much money Scott will get in a new deal.

“My best guess is a three- or four-year deal in the $14 million range,” Rosenthal said, via Foul Territory.

Scott played five seasons with the Baltimore Orioles before going to the Miami Marlins in 2022 and then the Padres in 2024.

In 2024 with the Marlins and Padres, Scott appeared in 72 games and was 9-6 with 22 saves, a 1.75 ERA and 84 strikeouts in 72.0 innings pitched.

Rosenthal said he believes Scott will get the most money out of all the relievers still available, but not as much as a top-end closer like Josh Hader.

Having a shutdown closer is attractive to any team, which explains why Scott is drawing interest from multiple teams.

He posted his career-best ERA in 2024 and proved that he has the stuff to be effective in that role in 2025.

It will be interesting to see how close Rosenthal is to the number Scott gets this offseason.
