The New York Mets made a surprising run to the National League Championship Series, defeating the Milwaukee Brewers and Philadelphia Phillies in the playoffs before losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

With the excitement of almost making a World Series appearance, the Mets have added some key players to their roster for the 2025 season.

Some of those additions include outfielders Juan Soto and Jose Siri, and pitchers Clay Holmes and Frankie Montas.

One more name Mets fans are waiting to hear is first baseman Pete Alonso, who has yet to sign with a team as a free agent.

MLB insider Jon Heyman recently revealed which team he thinks will wind up with Alonso.

“The Mets are the team to me that seems the most likely for Alonso,” Heyman said, via B/R Walk-Off.

Alonso is a fan favorite in New York after playing six seasons for the team since coming into the league in 2019.

Heyman mentions that the Mets may not be willing to give Alonso the six- or seven-year contract extension he is looking for, but they do want to bring him back.

In 2024, Alonso played in all 162 games and batted .240 with 34 home runs, 88 RBIs and a .788 OPS.

Although Alonso had a bit of a down season, the proven power threat has been a staple in the Mets’ lineup for the past few seasons.

The Mets will weigh all of their options, even though the final goal likely would be to re-sign Alonso.
