The New York Mets finished second in the National League East and made a strong playoff run after finishing with a record of 89-73.

After losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series, the Mets went into the offseason looking to add some pieces for the 2025 season.

The Mets made the biggest splash they could by signing the top free agent Juan Soto from the New York Yankees to a 15-year deal worth $765 million.

After signing Soto, MLB Insider Jon Heyman revealed that he thinks the Mets could go after free agent third baseman Alex Bregman.

“I’m not going to rule out Bregman to the Mets at this point,” Heyman said via B/R Walk-Off on ‘X.’

The talk surrounding Bregman has ramped up recently.

He has been mentioned as an interest by teams such as the Mets, Boston Red Sox, and Detroit Tigers.

Heyman mentions that the Mets could pivot from pursuing Pete Alonso to Bregman, but he states that it is purely speculation at this point.

Billionaire Steve Cohen owns the Mets, so the team’s limit to spend is unknown, but it could be a substantial amount.

Bregman has played all nine seasons with the Houston Astros but could be on the move for the 2025 season.

In 2024 with the Astros, Bregman played 145 games and batted .260 with 26 home runs, 75 RBIs, and a .768 OPS.

The Mets will be a team to watch as the baseball world waits for Bregman to sign with a team.
