Major League Baseball news has been dominated by the free agent class and the big-time trades that have occurred this offseason.

With multiple big-time power hitters available this offseason, it has kept the attention of many people in the baseball world.

Although the game today is driven by home runs, there was a time when a high batting average was just as impressive as a high home run total.

Tony Gwynn was one of those players with a high batting average, and a crazy stat was revealed on social media.

According to MLB Network on ‘X,’ Gwynn would need to go hitless for 1,200 consecutive at-bats for his career batting average to drop below .300.

MLB fans took to social media to express how amazing this stat is.

Gwynn came into the league in 1982 and played 20 MLB seasons for the San Diego Padres.

In those 20 seasons, Gwynn’s career stats include a .338 batting average with 135 home runs, 1,138 RBIs, and a .847 OPS.

MLB fans showed their amazement at this stat with their replies on social media, and the game today makes the stat even more impressive.

In today’s MLB, anything over .300 for a single season is impressive, but for Gwynn to have a .338 average for an entire 20-season career is mind blowing.

Even though the game today is all about the long ball, many MLB fans are appreciative of a player who is an all-around great hitter.
