The Toronto Blue Jays reside in one of the toughest divisions in all of Major League Baseball the American League East.

With teams like the New York Yankees, Baltimore Orioles, and Boston Red Sox in the same division, the Blue Jays need some top-end talent to stay competitive.

The Blue Jays finished in last place in the AL East in 2024 with a record of 74-88.

Although the Blue Jays haven’t made any splash moves this offseason, MLB Analyst Kevin Frandsen believes they should focus on keeping Vladimir Guerrero Jr. before he becomes a free agent.

“The Blue Jays have to find a way to keep Vlad Jr,” Frandsen said via MLB Network Radio on Sirius XM.

Guerrero Jr. came into the league in 2019 with the Blue Jays and has played all six seasons of his MLB career with the team.

After another monster campaign in 2024, Frandsen thinks the Blue Jays need to focus on giving Guerrero Jr. an extension before he becomes a free agent after the 2025 season.

In 2024, Guerrero Jr. played in 159 games where he batted .323 with 30 home runs, 103 RBIs, and a .940 OPS.

The Blue Jays were one of the many teams involved in the Juan Soto sweepstakes this offseason before he eventually signed with the New York Mets.

Frandsen believes that the Blue Jays need to offer Guerrero Jr. a substantial amount of money, maybe not what they were offering Soto, but close to it.

Guerrero Jr. will be a name to keep an eye on for the Blue Jays to see if a contract extension can get done before the end of the 2025 season.
