The New York Mets were one of the more surprising teams in the postseason in 2024.

After squeezing into the playoffs in a wild-card spot, the Mets knocked off the Milwaukee Brewers in the wild-card round and then knocked off the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League Division Series.

Although the Mets lost in the National League Championship Series, they got a taste of a long postseason run and a World Series appearance.

The Mets went out and signed the top free agent Juan Soto this offseason, and now MLB Analyst Vince Cotroneo is calling for the Mets to re-sign free agent first baseman Pete Alonso.

“Let’s get this job done and let’s get it done now,” Cotroneo said via MLB Network Radio on Sirius XM.

Alonso came into the league with the Mets in 2019 and has played all six seasons of his MLB career with the team.

In 2024, Alonso played in all 162 games for the Mets and batted .240 with 34 home runs, 88 RBIs, and a .788 OPS.

Cotroneo mentions that many of the available first basemen this offseason are gone and that the Mets need to get a deal done with Alonso.

The Mets are looking like a World Series contender in 2025, and Cotroneo believes that bringing Alonso back will only help the team as he is a fan favorite with raw power.

Although the Mets haven’t won a World Series title since 1986, the team has its eyes on winning it all in 2025.

The Mets may not be done adding talent this offseason even though they already signed the most expensive player in MLB history.
